Connecting with God through reading the Bible
"God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in the past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son."  — Hebrews 1:1–2

Have you ever waited for a phone call that didn't come? Refreshed your inbox one too many times, hoping for a word from someone you love? That feeling — that longing to hear from someone — is not weakness. It's one of the most human things there is.

Here's what stopped me when I first read Hebrews 1: God has that same longing. For centuries, He sent prophets — messengers carrying fragments of His heart to His people. A clue here. A promise there. A picture, a poem, a warning, a comfort. He kept reaching out, in every way He could, because He wanted to be known.

And then, when the time was right, He stopped sending messages about Himself — and came Himself.

Jesus is not just God's latest message. He is God's fullest, clearest, most complete self-revelation. When you look at how Jesus loved people — the outcasts, the doubters, the broken, the desperate — you're seeing what God is actually like. Not a distant ruler. A Father running down the road toward His child.

I remember once I was driving back to college when I felt an overwhelming urge to pray for my mom and sister. I didn't know why. I just prayed. Later I learned that at that exact moment, a truck had swerved across the highway and narrowly missed their car. God had impressed me to pray because He wanted them safe — and because He wanted me to know He was close.

That's who this God is. He reaches toward us, in ways big and small, because He loves us and wants to communicate with us. Do you want to connect with God?

Reflect

Have you ever had a moment — like my highway story — where you felt God reaching toward you? What happened?

If Jesus shows us exactly what God is like, what does that tell you about how God feels about you right now?

Prayer: Lord, thank You that You didn't stay silent. Thank You that You sent Jesus so I could know exactly what You're like. Open my heart this week to hear Your voice and see Your hand in my life. Amen.
